Parting is such sweet sorrow

As the year wound down I had to face facts. I was going to have to put the bikes to bed and start packing for my impending year long trip to the States.
Yep 1 year away from tinkering with motorcycles only sweetened by a big helping of freedom and as many beers as I could fit down my neck.
Any plans I might have had to buy a bike out there were squashed when I took the 'un like me' decision of buying something sensible instead. So I bought Solar panels for the house.
Anyhoo before I left, I did stretch the budget a bit and manage to pick up some rather lovely performance parts, ready for me to come home.

The first and most exciting purchase is a set of Ethos design GP pipes. With a stainless system and carbon cans that both exit on the right, they look stunning and should give a nice performance boost over the restrictive stock system.
Second hand, these weren't allot cheaper than a new set of Tyga pipes but for the quality and "look at me I have cool old tuning house stuff" appeal, these couldn't be beaten.
Before I departed I did get time to sink a bottle of paraffin into the expansion chambers to clear out any accumulated soot and gunge, of which there was allot of it.
A short review and images of this system fitted can be seen on dream gate. For now mine is disassembled and hanging in the garage.
I just can't get enough of those serpentine welded stainless steal expansion chambers and if you can't, there are a couple more photographs stuck on the bottom.

Secondly I managed to pick up some hrc Stuffer blocks. These sit in the reed valve casings and offer a better air flow than the standard stuffer blocks resulting in improved peak power.
I had planned to purchase V-force reed valves but these HRC stuffer blocks came up at such a low price it seemed rude not to. All I will need is some carbon reeds which are available in the UK for about £80.

Finally and somewhat less excitingly there is the engine gasket kit. This is needed to replace the head gasket i removed whilst looking at those RS250 cylinder heads but also for after I have flowed and ported the engine. I could have got the gaskets individually but they were fairly cheap as a kit and I will no doubt need them at some point.

I intend to, whilst I'm away, pick up odds and ends for the bike so when I get back I can really get stuck in with finishing this project off. Plastics, replacement fasteners, mirrors and no doubt countless more bits will be needed before the bike is ready to be registered and all will have to wait for me to come home.
Until then this project and blog will be on ice. Luckily for you (maybe) this blog has been running behind so you wont have to wait quite so long as I have to.
Anyhoo as promised here are a couple more pictures of those lovely expansion chambers. Drool!
