Back in the garage

Back in the garage

After 8 months being bike free I am finally back in the garage getting some work done.

During my time away I had subdued my need to play with motorcycles by buying bits for them. As a result I had a rather large collection of bits in my bags and waiting for me when I got home.
Sharing garage time with the VFR800 I have started to dig through the long list of tasks I had set for these machines.

Top of the list would be anything that was easy to do before the bike goes off  for respray and wouldn't need taking off again straight away for that task.

Front brake master cylinder

One item I had picked up in the states was a radial front brake master cylinder off of a late model CBR1000 fireblade. I would have loved to put some Brembo porn on here but as this was only $60 with everything bar the reservoir I couldn't really justify the extra. Plus the levers were a better match and the brake light switch is the same with the Nissin unit.
I won't bore you with the fit aside from the following issues I hit that might be of interest to you:

Clearance on cylinder

As the radial master cylinder is longer it contacts the clocks before full left lock (an MOT failure). To remedy this I did the following; - rotated backwards as far as the peg would allow me.
                  - slid the brake unit out as far as the instruments would allow.

Clearance on reservoir

As I was using the original reservoir and bracket I found they were impacting the front fairing stay on full right lock. Rotating the reservoir bracket helped initially but when the brake was moved outboard for the previous issue the problem was back and unworkable with the bracket I have. I will have to fabricate something in the future to remedy this.

Clock surround

I did plenty more on this day but none of it was a complete job so I will save them for another day.
I have ordered allot of carbon for this machine (most of it only today as Gavin at Jap4performance was having a mare with Samco) but hopefully it doesn't step out of the realms of good taste. I spent 5 minutes slinging this one on as a quick taskette. I had picked this up earlier as I had managed to find an old Daytona one on ebay with no bids at a pound!?! It was a little grubby in the pictures but a couple of minutes with some crystal glow and it looks mint and even cooler than today's only option of Tyga!
